Week 1 January 16, 2006

Well the first week of my new life is officially over. As I thought I was very busy and have been reduced to making a commitment of updating this blog weekly lol. I am however working on an interesting blog entitled “Inside the gangster mentality - surprised?” which promises to be good and nice and very very long. As such it may take me awhile but hopefully it’ll happen lol. So lets give a quick run down of how week 1 went.
As for school I attended all my classes, did most of my readings, took notes, and actually did some homework, so vast improvement so far though still not where I want to be I’m getting there. Next steps are finishing not just starting my readings and homework lol, but I blame that on it being the first week back and trying to actually interact with people I haven’t seen in a month. At least there is promise.
As for other academic eneavours I am currently in the process of applying for internships this summer, and I am hoping to get one as a financial analyst or something in investment banking this summer. Ideally with TD Securities or RBC, but we shall see. If I have to write another cover letter I might snap (p.s. I’ve only written one lol) I also discovered that I hate accounting just as I thought, and technology. I have an assignment due tomorrow and I haven’t been able to even see it due to computer issues and my idiot ibm not being able to open a damn word document, we shall see how that pans out.
In other news I did get some exercise in, though no cardio which I am a little disappointed about. The abs are for now still non-existent but I’ll have you know Natalie that my quads are in good shape lol. I went for quite a successful jog, glad to see that all those years of cross country and track haven’t been lost to muscle degradation and apathy.
As far as culture goes it consists of being trying a 65 dollar bottle of scoth whiskey, johnnie walker black label, excellent stuff, going to see Last Holiday and Brokeback Mountain, and trying a new pizza flavour. What can I say, “winterfest” isn’t the best time for culture. I also found out I have a magical ability to teleport. After a pub on wednesday night a buddy and I went out looking for a fountain to be the victim of our o so heinous prank, it involves lots and lots of bubbles. We looked and looked and looked and to no avail. However we ended up quite aways from campus, we were able to get what should have taken us 25 mins or more to walk to in about 8 minutes, and we still have no idea how. And get this we were sober, so what does that tell you, the mysterious street of toronto for yah. We did however end up finding a fountain much closer to campus on the way back, and the next morning the birdies could of gotten a nice bubble bath had it not been freezing outside.
This term I’ve also had an extra sense of longing for my 2nd home of quebec and I’ve pretty much decided I’m moving there after graduation. I got a chance to see the debates in French and I’ve pretty much decided that if I was quebecois i’d vote bloc. Did anyone see the fight between Paul Martin and Gilles Duceppe, delightful. I also got to see how truly horrible Harper is at French, he had to apologise for his failed attempt in his closing statements, and once he didn’t even understand the question being asked of him. Oh Harper, this just cements my dislike for him. Ps did anyone else see his fish hook smile, I’ve never seen something so unnatural looking since Lindsay Lohan with blond hair. What a guy. Ps I know this is a democracy and everything but you all better vote Liberal. It is much too late for me to get into why and analyse politics and track party promises and what have you. I hope you have been doing that on you own, I know I have, and if not, feel free to consult the HM.
Along with my pang for Quebec i miss my OSTA friends!!! and all my other people at different universities that I haven’t seen in forever. I am going to make much more of an effort this term to a, pick up the phone and call them, and b pull money from the air and go visit them lol. I wish you all the best and hope your marks are treating you much better then they are treating me, I hate calc with a passion. (its not getting better lol)
I must be getting to bed now, early morning tomorrow to do work that I should have done this weekend, hopefully that will actually pan out. And by hopefully I mean it better, b/c it definitely has to get done. Well until next week and next post I bid you all adieu.

First Steps January 6, 2006

Hello there,

Well this is another attempt at starting and maintaining a blog. However, with it being the start of a new year, and with my resolution to start it with a new outlook, it seemed fitting. Well with this talk of a resolution and a new outlook I might as well explain myself.

Essentially what I want to do this year is to be a better person. Small order eh? But let me explain, I just want to change small things, a little at a time, that will contribute to what I view as living a better life for me.

First of all, I plan on coming back to University as a student this time lol. I had my fun and was managing to pull off good marks for awhile, but with the christmas exams that just past I am clinging on to my 4.0 range by less than a finger, so its time to make some changes. Nothing major, just actually doing my homework and readings, spending more time at the library then infront of the TV or computer, and staying alert in class and taking organised/legible notes.

Next I want to become more “cultured” lol, politically/globally aware/involved and get back into my photography. Its been far too long since my last photoshoot. I also plan on reading more, actually visiting the ROM - which I pass everyday - exploring downtown more, reading the paper, seeing my first opera, check out the TSO, try new foods, start another language etc.

Now that we’ve got the “mind and soul” covered off, time for the dreaded body. Now I’m not in bad shape at all, but I haven’t been nearly as good to my body as I should be. Time to cut the crap, and by crap I mean eating a full box of KD at midnight with no plans of exercise in the near future lol. I was on the health food diet for awhile when I was at home, and I know thats not realistic now, especially as a student living alone, but I can at least go for “healthy alternatives.” God I sound like the body break people. I plan on exercising at least 3 times a week, twice during the weekend and at least once throughout the week. I haven’t seen my abs since summer time lol. I really need to work on my flexibility so maybe I’ll try yoga for a bit. And I did spend all that money on my road bike last summer, so you can be damn sure I’ll be busting that out and perhaps entering some events (Le Classique Louis Garneau anyone?)

Another big thing is friends, I’m very happy with my social life now, perhaps the only thing I’d change would be spending more time with my non-uni. friends, and maintaining contact with my “peeps” who aren’t so accessible anymore.

And last but not least, I am earnestly going to try and not live in a shithole and keep my apartment halfway decent.

So as you can see I’ve definitely got my work cut out for me, and I’ll be sure to keep you updated along way. Hopefully by this time next year I’ll have my 4.0, my abs, and my “better life.” Not that I haven’t had an awesome one so far, I’m just striving for a better one.

Over and out for now, but I’m fairly sure I’ll be back, ciao
